When did Burzum first form?
I did the music since early 1991. I took Burzum as a name August 1991. Burzum never "formed", it’s a one-man band.
What does the name Burzum actually mean?
For some people, Burzum means death and for others it could mean misery, but literally it means darkness.
Please explain about your mini LP "Aske" and list some of the songs.
Three tracks are re-recorded: "A Lost Forgotten Sad Spirit", "Dominus Sathanas" (title track; also a pure guitar song from September 1991), and a track titled "Stemmen Fra Tårnet" (January 1992). The mini LP is released to provide people to hate, hate Burzum, and "our" doings.
When was the "Aske" mini LP released?
It was recorded in September 1992 and it will be released in January 1993.
When will the LP/CD be out on Deathlike Silence Productions?
The debut has been out for almost a year now. The second LP/CD "Det Som Engang Var" will be out in the middle of 1993.
What are some of your influences in the past?
Thorns, Mayhem and Bathory.
Where do you rehearse?
I only make the music. When an album is finished, I borrow a drum kit and rehearse for about a week or two on drums. This is when record the drums. I hate rehearsing! I prefer to listen to the music. Rehearsing with a band, in my opinion, is too social! I’ll die in solitude!
Please tell us about the band entitled Emperor.
This is Norwegian metal. Tomas also plays in that band. Oh yes, I almost forgot, he lays the bass on the mini LP. I think I’ll keep on doing this alone. The mini LP was a project and as far as Emperor goes, write to Tomas Haugen for info.
What kind of instruments do you play?
I play all guitars, bass, drums, synths, percussion, giant gong, screams, and all vocals. On the mini LP, Tomas plays bass.
How and where do you structure the music?
I create music by playing guitar and I usually do the lyrics "almost" the same time.
Give your opinion on the following bands: Rotting Christ, Bathory, and Necromantia.
Rotting Christ is okay and Bathory is the best ever!!! Now, Necromantia is worthless white metal! They are as evil as God’s angels! The Church of Satan losers. I call it the church of love, light, life, and freedom. It has nothing to do with Satanism.
What do you think of when you view the moon, especially on a cold night of darkness with clouds?
Where I live, it always rains. I have not seen the sun for some years now. There is always thick, dark, and grey clouds. When I seldom see the moon for only a few seconds. It is always cold here, but never real cold I think? I think the stormy weather gives off an effect better than anything else! A snow storm in the higher mountains is not as good as seeing the chaotic sea rage war unto the shores. See, the rain creates rivers in the streets and the strong wind tears apart every winter. Welcome to Western Norway and welcome to the greyest weather of all time! I worship it!!
How long shall Burzum remain as a band? Forever?! (I hope so!!)
If I am immortal, then Burzum will last forever.
That is all my brother for now!! Burzum is one of the most innovative, yet greatest bands I’ve heard! Worship with fire and sword, so are there any last words?!
